Shabana Bibi, a 25-year-old Muslim woman from the Muzaffargarh district of Pakistan, was the target of a brutal attack by her own husband and father-in-law after leaving one night to visit her sister without first obtaining permission from her violent husband.
Bibi died in a Pakistani hospital from burns on 80 percent of her body after allegedly being lit on fire by her father-in-law, Pir Bakhsh, in an apparently Shariah law-compliant “honor killing.”
According to Bibi’s brother, Muhammad Azam, she suffered multiple beatings from her husband of three years, Muhammad Siddique, because he was upset that the couple couldn’t produce children.
Bakhsh and Siddique were both arrested and charged with murder and terrorism.
But Azam says police won’t release the official crime report and has threatened drastic action outside of the local police station if he doesn’t get justice for his sister’s brutal killing.
“I would set myself on fire in front of the office of the district police chief if I did not get justice,” Azam stated.
